EventShares Names Ex-Goldman Sachs Portfolio Manager Ben Phillips, CFA as Chief Investment Officer
NEW YORK, September 6, 2017 – Active Weighting Advisors LLC, a New York-based company with a family of exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in registration with Active Weighting Funds ETF Trust under the brand name EventShares, today announced the appointment of Ben Phillips, CFA, as Chief Investment Officer.
In his new role, Mr. Phillips will oversee research analysis and portfolio management for EventShares and Chair the Investment Committee for all future fund launches. Mr. Phillips will report directly to Jon Clements, EventShares’ CEO, who previously worked with Ben at Goldman Sachs.
Mr. Phillips joins EventShares from Goldman Sachs Asset Management (GSAM), where he had portfolio management responsibilities for high yield, convertible, and leveraged loan investments across several multi-sector total return funds. Prior to GSAM, he spent four years with Providence Equity Partners and three years with Lord Abbett.
“With more than a decade developing and executing multi-asset investing strategies, Ben brings great insight and experience to EventShares,” said Jon Clements, the company’s chief executive officer (CEO). “We’re delighted to have him join us and look forward to his contributions.”
“While the ETF industry has seen major growth over the last several years, there are still significant opportunities for funds that are clearly differentiated in the market and that seek to meet real investor needs. Throughout my career, I have seen what tailored investment strategies can do for Wall Street clients, and I want to be a part of the team bringing these strategies to Main Street. ” said Mr. Phillips, “We believe that passive portfolio construction is unsuitable for constantly changing narratives in the geopolitical landscape. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to contribute to the team as we move forward.”
Mr. Phillips is a Chartered Financial Analyst and received an MBA and BSBA in Finance from the University of Missouri. He will be based in the New York office.
